Things To Do in Korea Before and After Jaw Surgery

We recommend patients come to Korea a minimum of 1 week before double jaw surgery for pre-surgery health screenings, and about a month after the surgery for post-op check-ups. Here are a few ideas of what you can do to spend your time during this period.

Before the Surgery

Alcohol consumption:

For a week before the surgery, it's important to stop smoking and drinking as it can affect the way the anesthesia works in your body. You will need to continue to abstain from drinking or smoking for 2 months after the surgery to prevent infections and promote healing. If you'd like to explore the nightlife and clubbing scene in Korea, we recommend you arrive in Korea more than the required 1 week before surgery.

Food:

You will need to be on a liquid diet for 2 weeks after double jaw surgery and are limited to eating soft foods for 3 months after the surgery. We recommend you try the local cuisine as much as you can before the surgery. An area in which you can try a large variety of Korean food is the Gwangjang Market.

You could also bring food to the Han river to have a picnic.

Activities:

Due to the fact that you should be careful to avoid any impact on your face after the surgery, it's a good idea to get any risky activities out of the way beforehand- if you enjoy rollercoasters, go before the surgery! The closest theme park is Lotte World, the largest indoor theme park in the world.

If you're arriving in Korea in the summer, you might also want to visit beaches or waterparks, as we recommend that you wait a minimum of 1 month after the surgery before swimming. The most notable water park is Caribbean Bay

After the Surgery

The time immediately following surgery is for rest and recuperation. We recommend patients walk to help dissipate their swelling. It'll be difficult to muster up the energy for anything intense due to the liquid diet, but strolling leisurely around a park or a museum is fine.

   Chunggyecheon | Open 24 hours

    Namsan Tower

     Cat or Dog cafes

     Aquarium

     Seoul Forest

The general rule of thumb is to avoid alcohol and smoking during your stay and to schedule any foods you'd like to try for before the surgery. We hope that you are able to enjoy your stay in Korea as much as possible during the time surrounding your surgery at EU!
