Virtual 3D Results Before Surgery
Before surgery, patients may be curious or anxious about how they will look after surgery. Depending on the clinic, there may be different types of services that are offered to show potential results such as photoshopped results or even 3D virtual results.
At EU Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, a separate 3D virtual simulation service is available to those who are curious about how facial bone surgery can change their face. By using a device called Morpheus, we can scan a patient's face and a 3D image of the face will be available on the computer screen.
More About Morpheus
Morpheus is a 3D simulation device that can help predict potential before/after results of the face by using scanned data of the soft tissues and cephalometric radiographs. The device can help with surgical planning to give a visualization of the surgical outcome. Reference points and tracings are made on cephalogram xrays and facial scans to help surgeons plan more accurately according to each patient’s bone shape and face structure. Patients will be able to see before and after comparisons side by side. However, it must be noted that the virtual results are only a prediction and it will be difficult to show results that are 100% accurate.
