Double Jaw Surgery & Orthodontic Treatment
In some cases, orthodontic treatment such as braces or invisalign are not enough to treat symptoms such as malocclusion. Lantern Jaw
A lantern jaw can cause the chin and lower jaw to look long. When viewed from the side, the lower jaw looks protruded. It is possible to treat a lantern jaw with orthodontic treatment if the problem lies with the teeth. However, if it is caused by skeletal issues, surgery is needed to improve the bone structure. Double jaw surgery can help push back the lower jaw and improve an underbite. By rotating the upper jaw and lower jaw, it will help change the angle of the occlusion plane.
Underbite
An underbite can be classified as class III malocclusion. The lower teeth will pass further out than the upper teeth. Surgery for an underbite is not solely done for the purpose of aesthetic improvment. An underbite can cause discomfort in an individual's lifestyle. Problems with chewing food, pronunciation, and discomfort of the jaw area can occur due to misalignment.
Facial Contouring Surgery for Males
A lot of male patients may worry that combining facial contouring surgery with double jaw surgery will make their jawline "too sharp/narrow." For example, V-line surgery is commonly paired with double jaw surgery to improve the length of the chin and even out any asymmetry in the jaw.
