Why
did I choose EU?
I chose EU because I liked their consistent
results. I was concerned of poor jaw shaving due to dents and asymmetry. So, I
did a lot of research and looked at many reviews on korean apps, forums, and
kaokao groups and saw that many of their patients did not have poor results. I
also liked that EU specialized in oral maxillofacial surgery. Double jaw
surgery is a very serious procedure with many possible complication. It was
important to me to choose a doctor that had plan and was experienced in double
jaw surgery. EU also offered better service.
As a foreigner alone, it's scary and
confusing to have a big medical procedure in a different language. The
translators, Kayla, the front desk staff Hyein, all the nurses, and even the
xray techs have been incredibly helpful and nice. Everything was translated
well and Kayla even helped me order
food. The service went above and beyond.
Why
did you consider double jaw surgery?
After my braces treatment was completed
when I was a teenager my doctor wanted to finish with double jaw surgery.
However it was not approved by my insurance at the time and my family was very
poor. We were supported through government programs and I didn't want my
parents to stress about big medical bills. To not be a burden on my parents I
decided to save up money to have this procedure in the future.
As I grew older I realized that I never
smiled with my teeth showing. I was very sensitive of my underbite and I always
took photos at an angle to mask my jaw asymmetry.
After my 25th birthday I decided it was
finally time to have this procedure as a gift to myself. I wanted to enjoy the
rest of my 20s smiling widely and not hiding my face.
What
changes do you want to see after surgery?
First and foremost I want my bite to be
corrected. Aesthetics come second. I wanted the largeness of my chin and my
facial asymmetry to be corrected. In america we favor strong jawlines so I
wanted to keep as much of my mandible bone as I could. Hopefully after the
swelling resolves ill see my strong jawline again. My smile is crooked right
now but I cant wait to see it once Im healed!
1
week surgery post op review:
I'm still very swollen. Drinking water and
other fluids is still difficult. But I found after a day or two I no longer
need to use syringe to drink, I just drink carefully from cups. I noticed that
my swelling was getting worse after I drank so I used cold packs and walked
around before and after drinking. That seems to have helped with the
extracellular fluids. My smile is still lopsided but talking and practicing
smiling seems to slowly help my muscles remember how to smile evenly.
Lymphatic massaging my face in the shower
has helped to bring down my swelling as well. Ive also been going to infared
light therapy everyday for 30 min at EU, I think its helping with my swelling.
The pain is bearable. My chin constantly
feels cold and numb but I can bear it. Right now my teeth are still fairly
sensitive but Im hoping with time itll heal.
