What is a long face?_Double Jaw Surgery_EUSURGERY

What is a long face?

Normally, the length of the face is 1.3 times the width of the face. A long face refers to cases where the face is much longer than this norm.

While a long face may be attributable to the width of the face is too narrow, it is attributable to the length of the face is too long and therefore diagnosed as a long face in most cases.

In cases of a long face, patients may not be able to fully close their mouth during their ordinary day to day life and their upper teeth and gum may be overly visible when smiling or laughing.

Moreover, they experience teeth malocclusion with having an open bite in often cases.

Long face surgical method

The surgical method to treat and correct a long narrow face depends on the underlying issues of the face.

If the jaw is simply protruded or only the chi) is just long in length, the chin only can be cut to correct. However, this must proceed with caution as the face may look unnatural after cutting the chin only.
