The two primary surgical methods in double jaw surgery are
SSRO (Sagittal Split
Ramus Osteotomy) and IVRO (Intraoral Vertical Ramus Osteotomy).
While the preferred surgical method may vary slightly depending on the hospital and the surgeon, Both methods are used at EU Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.
From time to time, our patients ask us which of the two methods,
SSRO and IVRO, is better. Whenever we receive this question,
our response at EU is always the
same.
The appropriate surgical method depends on the patient’s unique circumstances,
and the method that offers the most benefits, given the patient’s circumstances,
is
the best surgical method to use.
<SSRO>
Characteristics
This is the most widely used method around the world.
This method tends to result in outstanding initial immovability and
is effective at expanding the length.
**Factors to consider**
If the patients were naturally born with thin bones or
have thin bones as a result of receiving double jaw surgery
to treat structural issues such as a square jaw, applying the SSRO method
maybe difficult due to
the possibility of exposing the nerves.
