What is Short Chin?
A
short chin usually refers to cases where the lower jaw bone is receded inward,
or the lower jaw is small in terms of size, such that it seems as though there
is no chin. As the chin is not positioned forward sufficiently enough, the lower
side of the face seems small and weak.
The
chin is receded inward and its length is not sufficient enough. As the borderline between the jaw and the neck is mixed up and is ambiguous, such that it
seems to be a beak. Therefore, a short chin is also called a bird face.
Short Chin Surgical Method
The
appropriate surgical method can be either the orthognathic surgery or the chin
surgery, depending on the degree of severity of short chin and malocclusion.
If, through diagnosis, the issue is not confined to the lower jaw due to
reasons such as malocclusion, then double jaw surgery may be necessary to
correct for the lower jaw, while also treat the upper jaw issues, and to
relocate and position the jaws.
