What is an open bite?
When most people say “open bite,” they’re
referring to an anterior open bite. People who have an anterior open bite have
front upper and lower teeth that slant outward so they don’t touch when the
mouth is shut.
An open bite is a type of malocclusion, which means the teeth
aren’t aligned properly when the jaws are closed. As the back teeth are coming together
more often, the wear can lead to discomfort and other dental problems including
fractured teeth.
What causes it?
Generally, three factors contribute to a
misalignment of the teeth and an opening between the top and bottom rows of the
front teeth. In some instances, the opening can be caused by a problem with the
jawbone.
Some children also develop an opening in their bite when they have a
mix of baby and permanent teeth. The teeth won't quite match up until a child
has lost all of his or her baby teeth and gotten all their permanent teeth. Sometimes,
a person's habits can be behind a bite problem.

side effects of an open bite are
*Aesthetics.
There is a chance that unsatisfied with the appearance of their teeth which
also, effect on their appearance
*Speech.
It can interfere with speech and pronunciation. For example, many people with
open bite develop a lisp
*Eating.
It can prevent you from properly biting and chewing food which leads you to indigestion.
