Safe and Precise Square Jaw Surgery Using 3D Printed Stents

Today we will discuss using a 3D printer for precise and safe square jaw surgery.

The shape of the face plays an integral part in determining a person's image.

There are more and more people seeking to improve their face shape for a better image, and those whose large and angular jaw angles seek angle reduction surgery.

By cutting the angular bone, we can create a slim, smooth jawline.

What is Square Jaw Surgery using a 3D printed stent like at EU?

We precisely determine the patient's bone before surgery, and use a 3D printed to create a stent to use as a guide to cut the bone- we refer to this as Stent Square Jaw Surgery.

What role does a stent play!?

After deciding how much to cut and the cut location, we design and 3D print something called a "Stent"

When we put the square jaw stent on the jaw model, the stent fits the jaw bone exactly, and the bone will be cut as much as the stent is covering.

When performing the surgery using a stent, it ensures a symmetrical end result.

This is a surgery case where we used a surgical stent for the square jaw and the patient underwent cheekbone reduction and genioplasty as well.

When you compare the before and after images, the face shape is smooth and you can see that the symmetry is corrected through surgery.

Why use a stent!?

In order to create a stent, you'd need a dental technician lab as well as a program to design the stent and the a 3D printer to create it.

What we consider to be the most important part is considering the patient's individual and unique bone shapes to protect their nerves, and ensuring a symmetrical end result.

Using a square jaw stent can ensure precise bone cutting.

When viewing the patient's before and after CT, you can see the symmetry between the left and right of the jaw bone.

Square Jaw surgery needs a detailed diagnosis to prevent nerve damage while reducing the bone as much as the patient wishes, and it's important to undergo this procedure with an oral and maxillofacial surgeon who is familiar and experienced with the facial bones.

In order to ensure a safe and satisfactory result, a correct diagnosis is of utmost importance.

We advise that you check that the clinic you are looking to undergo surgery in have sufficient safety systems and follow-up treatments in place before you commit to the surgery.

We at EU Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery are committed to educating patients of the potential dangers of the surgery in detail, and our staff and medical personnel are devoted to maintaining a safe treatment environment for our patients.

We hope to meet you at EU, where we will be there for you every step of the way.
