Facial Angle: Having A Balanced Profile

How Does the Facial Angle Effect Our Face?

The facial angle can impact a person's facial size and balance. For example, a protruded chin may make the face look bigger from the side profile. In Korean beauty standards, it is ideal to have the forehead in a position that sticks out more forward than the chin. If the chin protrudes past the forehead, it can make the face look bigger. Even if we were to compare two people with the same face length, a person whose facial angle is wider may give off the illusion of a longer face. That is why people with smaller facial angles are able to take selfies from the front or at a higher angler without having to worry about their faces appearing long.

What is the Best Surgical Method?

Patients who may want to improve their facial angle can do so with double jaw surgery. For example, by rotating the jaw and changing the position of the occlusal plane, it can help improve the appearance of a lantern jaw. This method realigns the jaw which makes the face appear shorter and smaller from the front and the side. Instead of doing facial contouring to make the jawline more slime and reducing the jaw angle excessively, double jaw surgery is recommended to improve the facial angle.

An example of a celebrity with a small facial angle would be Aespa members! What the members have in common is that their chins are positioned back, and do not go past their lips.

How To Tell If My Facial Angle Is Wide or Small?

1. Like the picture above, you can draw a vertical line from above the ear holes and straight past the nose. This first line should be below the eyes.

2. Then, you can draw a horizontal line from below the nostrils and below the lips.

3. Then, you will measure the angle where the two lines intersect. The standard facial angle size is 80 degrees. If the angle is larger than 80 degrees, it can be a sign of a bigger facial angle.
